Glasgow West End Festival Parade 2009
ByGlasgow’s 2009 West End Festival parade took place in Kelvin Way near Glasgow University’s old building instead of in Byres Road which used to be closed off for the festival. It used to begin in the Botanic Gardens and proceed down Byres Rd but this time it started at the top of Kelvin Way near University Avenue and moved down through the Way and into Kelvingrove Park and continued up to the top of the park. There were Chinese percussionists and a dragon, dancers dressed in purple and pink fairy costumes with gigantic wings and belly-dancers dressed in yellow. Tall papery female figures in white and lilac made from fabric bobbed and twirled along. Saxophonists and drummers with silvery leggings and trousers and bright pink glittery dresses and tops proceeded close to a gigantic PA system which was towed and pushed all the way up the hill inside the park. Afterwards, the procession gradually dispersed but entertainment continued at various locations in the park.
